About

Welcome to Cozy Platter

Where simple ingredients, comforting flavors, and heartfelt cooking create meals that feel like home.

Hi, I’m Maria — a 35-year-old middle school librarian, mom to Lucas (10) and Elina (6), and someone who rediscovered herself through the quiet rhythm of cooking.

A few years ago, life shifted in ways I hadn’t expected. After nearly a decade together, my partner and I decided to part ways. There wasn’t a single moment that caused it — just the gradual realization that our paths were heading in different directions. Suddenly, I was learning how to navigate work, parenting, and a new version of everyday life on my own.

Those early months felt like a blur. Between school runs, lesson planning, and helping two kids adjust to big emotions, dinners were often whatever was fastest. I was tired in a way that went beyond sleep — the kind that settles into your bones when everything feels uncertain.

But I noticed something important: my kids craved small rituals. They needed moments that felt steady and familiar.

So I returned to the kitchen — not out of obligation, but out of hope. Saturday morning waffles became our comfort ritual. Tuesday soup nights filled the house with warmth. And once a week, we’d cook together, letting the kids choose a recipe and turn dinner into a tiny adventure.

Those evenings slowly stitched a sense of normal back into our lives. While vegetables roasted, Elina would chatter about school projects, and Lucas would hover nearby, asking questions he didn’t know how to ask anywhere else. Cooking gave us space to reconnect without pressure.

Finding Comfort in Everyday Cooking

Working in a school means giving a lot of emotional energy throughout the day. By evening, I often feel stretched thin. Cooking became my way to transition — a gentle pause between the outside world and home.

I started experimenting with simple meals that balanced comfort and practicality. Tweaking recipes so they’d fit into busy evenings. Writing notes about what worked, what didn’t, and what my kids actually ate without negotiation.

Friends began asking for those recipes — especially other busy parents trying to keep up with work and family. They wanted meals that felt doable on real days, not just ideal ones.

Building Cozy Platter

I started Cozy Platter as a small online notebook — a place to gather the recipes that carried us through busy weeks and quiet weekends. The name came from a simple idea: that food doesn’t have to be complicated to feel comforting. Sometimes all you need is a warm plate shared with people you love.

Over time, the blog grew into a space where others found encouragement — home cooks looking for meals that are approachable, flexible, and forgiving.

more about me....

My Background & Approach

Working in education has taught me how to explain clearly and anticipate questions before they arise. I bring that mindset into every recipe — breaking steps down, offering helpful tips, and keeping things straightforward.

I’m a home cook who learned through everyday practice, trial and error, and plenty of busy evenings. Every recipe here is made in a real kitchen, often with background noise, interruptions, and curious helpers.

I focus on meals that respect your time and energy — recipes you can trust to work even when life feels full.

About

What You'll Find Here

Recipes that feel like a hug – Comfort food that doesn't require fancy ingredients or complicated techniques. Just good, honest cooking that tastes like someone cares.

Stories behind the dishes – Because every recipe has a memory attached to it, and I think those stories matter just as much as the measurements.

Real kitchen talk – The burns, the substitutions, the "oops I added too much salt" moments. Cooking isn't perfect, and neither am I.

Food that brings people together – Whether it's a quiet dinner for one or a table full of loved ones, these recipes are about connection.

What I Believe

Cooking can be a gentle form of care — for yourself and for the people around you.

Simple meals often create the most meaningful memories.

Food has the power to ground us, especially during times of change.

You don’t need perfection to cook well — just patience, flexibility, and a willingness to try.
