This Air Fryer Crab Rangoon recipe offers a crispy, golden appetizer made with imitation crab meat, creamy cheese, and green onions, all wrapped in wonton wrappers and cooked to perfection using an air fryer. A healthier alternative to deep frying, this recipe delivers delicious crab rangoon in just 30 minutes, perfect for parties or quick snacks.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 2 ounces imitation crab meat
  • 2 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1½ tablespoons green onions (chopped small)
  • ½ tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Assembly

  • 16 wonton wrappers
  • Oil for spritzing

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a small bowl, thoroughly mix the cream cheese, imitation crab meat, chopped green onions, and Worcestershire sauce until evenly combined, creating a smooth, flavorful filling.
  2. Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to its hottest setting and preheat it for a full 10 minutes, ensuring the crisping basket or crisping plate is inside to guarantee optimal cooking results.
  3. Assemble the crab rangoons: Place 8 wonton wrappers on a cooling rack to keep them dry. Spoon 1 to 1½ teaspoons of the crab filling into the center of each wrapper. Dab some water near the filling aligned with each corner. Fold the wrappers into a triangle by pinching opposing corners over the filling, then fold in the remaining corners and press firmly to seal the edges securely.
  4. Air fry the first batch: Lightly spritz the air fryer basket with oil to prevent sticking. Arrange 8 crab rangoons inside and set the air fryer to 300°F (150°C) on air fry or air crisp mode. Cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Flip and finish frying: Carefully turn each crab rangoon on its side, spritz them again with oil, then continue air frying for an additional 3 to 5 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  6. Cool and serve: Remove the rangoons from the air fryer and let them cool on the cooling rack. Repeat the process with the remaining crab rangoons. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!

Notes

  • For best results, make sure the filling is at room temperature before assembling to make spreading easier.
  • If you don’t have Worcestershire sauce, a splash of soy sauce or fish sauce can add similar umami flavor.
  • Use a light oil spritz such as vegetable or avocado oil for a crispy finish without excess calories.
  • To freeze, place assembled but uncooked rangoons on a baking sheet, freeze solid, then transfer to a zip-top bag and air fry frozen with an extra 1-2 minutes cooking time.
  • Serve with sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, or a spicy mayo for dipping.
