These Air Fryer Turkey Burgers are a quick and healthy alternative to traditional burgers, featuring lean ground turkey seasoned with classic spices and cooked to juicy perfection in an air fryer. Perfect for a fuss-free meal with minimal cleanup, they come together in under 40 minutes and make for a delicious, satisfying dish ideal for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Turkey Burger Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey (ground chicken also works)
  • 1 large egg (50 grams out of shell)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (or refined coconut oil or unsalted butter if not dairy-free)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, stir together all the ingredients thoroughly. Using your hands is recommended for even mixing, but a fork can be used if preferred.
  2. Form Meatballs: Remove the mixture from the fridge and divide into three 165-gram balls, being careful not to overwork the meat to maintain tenderness.
  3. Shape Patties: Flatten each ball into patties about 1 inch thick and slightly wider than the hamburger buns by about half an inch. Avoid squashing or compressing the meat too much for best texture.
  4. Indent Patties: Use your thumb to make a shallow indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing up during cooking.
  5. Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 360°F (183°C) and spray the air fryer basket lightly with oil to prevent sticking.
  6. Arrange Patties: Place the patties in the air fryer basket, making sure they do not touch each other to allow proper air circulation.
  7. Cook Patties: Air fry the patties for 8 minutes, then flip them over and continue cooking for 8 to 11 more minutes or until an internal thermometer reads 165°F (74°C).
  8. Add Cheese: Turn off the air fryer heat, place cheese slices on the patties, and let them sit in the warm air fryer for 1 to 2 minutes until the cheese melts slightly.
  9. Serve: Transfer the cooked patties to buns and add your favorite toppings to enjoy your turkey burgers.
  10. Store Leftovers: Place any leftover burgers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.

Notes

  • Ground chicken can be used as a substitute for ground turkey.
  • Do not overwork the meat when mixing or forming patties to keep them juicy and tender.
  • Making an indentation in the center of each patty helps keep the burgers flat and prevents puffing up.
  • Ensure the air fryer basket is sprayed with oil to prevent sticking.
  • Use a meat thermometer to confirm the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) for food safety.
  • Burgers can be refrigerated up to 3 days; reheat thoroughly before consuming.
