This Apple Butter Pie is a luscious, spiced dessert featuring a smooth filling made with apple butter, evaporated milk, and warm spices baked in a flaky pie crust. Perfect for fall or any time you crave a cozy, flavorful treat, it combines sweet and aromatic notes into a creamy, set custard-like pie, ideal for serving with a dollop of whipped cream.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 1/2 cups apple butter
  • 12 ounces evaporated milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Crust and Topping

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
  • Whipped cream (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the apple butter, evaporated milk, eggs, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  2. Fill the pie crust: Pour the smooth apple butter filling into the unbaked 9-inch pie crust, spreading it evenly.
  3. Bake the pie: Place the pie in a preheated oven at 400°F (204°C) and bake for 15 minutes. Then reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (177°C) and continue baking for an additional 40 minutes, or until the center is set and a knife inserted into the middle comes out clean.
  4. Cool the pie: Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool completely on a wire rack to set the filling properly before slicing.
  5. Serve: Slice the pie and serve each piece with a dollop of whipped cream if desired for extra richness and flair.

Notes

  • Make sure the pie is completely cooled before slicing to ensure clean slices.
  • You can use store-bought or homemade apple butter depending on preference and availability.
  • For a dairy-free option, substitute evaporated milk with a plant-based alternative and use dairy-free whipped cream.
  • Use a deep dish pie crust if you want thicker layers or more filling.
