This Baked Lemon Garlic Halibut recipe features delicate halibut fillets marinated in a zesty lemon garlic mixture with smoked paprika, red pepper flakes, and fresh herbs, then baked to perfection for a flavorful and healthy meal.

Ingredients

Marinade

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • ⅓ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill

Main

  • 1 pound halibut filet
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the marinade: In a 9x13 inch casserole dish, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, smoked paprika, red pepper flakes, minced garlic, black pepper, sea salt, and dried dill until well combined.
  2. Marinate the halibut: Place the halibut fillet in the casserole dish with the marinade, flipping it to coat both sides evenly. Optionally, cut the halibut into smaller portions for individual servings. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 2 hours, allowing the flavors to infuse.
  3. Preheat the oven: Set your oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the fish.
  4. Bake the halibut: Remove the plastic wrap from the casserole dish and place it in the preheated oven. Bake the halibut for about 20 minutes or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  5. Serve and garnish: Remove the halibut from the oven and serve immediately, garnishing with chopped fresh parsley and diced tomato for a fresh, vibrant finish.

Notes

  • For best flavor, marinate the fish for at least 1 hour, but no more than 2 hours to prevent the lemon juice from breaking down the fish too much.
  • You can substitute fresh dill for dried dill using three times the amount.
  • Serve with steamed vegetables or a light salad for a complete, healthy meal.
  • If preferred, swap halibut with other firm white fish like cod or sea bass.
  • Adjust the red pepper flakes to taste for desired spiciness.
