This Beef Kafta recipe features a flavorful Middle Eastern ground beef mixture blended with aromatic spices and fresh parsley, shaped into oblong patties and grilled to perfection. Ready in 30 minutes, it's a delicious and easy-to-make dish perfect for a family dinner or gathering.

Ingredients

Herbs and Aromatics

  • ¼ cup parsley
  • 1 small yellow onion (quartered)

Meat and Spices

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons 7 spice blend
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon coriander
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Chop Parsley: Place the parsley in the bowl of a food processor and pulse until finely chopped, then remove and set aside.
  2. Chop Onion: In the same food processor bowl, add the quartered onion and pulse until finely chopped. Drain the onions slightly to release excess moisture.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Return the parsley to the food processor with the chopped onions. Add ground beef and all the spices. Pulse once or twice just until the ingredients are well combined into a pasty meat mixture.
  4. Form Kafta: Transfer the mixture to a large bowl. Shape into about 12 oblong patties, approximately 1 inch thick. You may form them on wooden skewers or leave them unskewered.
  5. Preheat Grill: Grease the grates of a gas grill or indoor grill pan and preheat to medium-high heat.
  6. Grill Kafta: Place the kafta on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until cooked to your preferred level of doneness.
  7. Serve: Serve hot off the grill with your choice of sides for a delicious meal.

Notes

  • For juicier kafta, avoid over-processing the meat mixture.
  • If using skewers, soak wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes before grilling to prevent burning.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper to your preferred spice level.
  • Kafta can be cooked in a skillet if a grill is not available, using medium-high heat and cooking similarly.
  • Serve with pita bread, tahini sauce, or a fresh salad for an authentic experience.
