This flavorful Beef Kafta recipe is a Middle Eastern grilled meat dish made from ground beef seasoned with a blend of warm spices and fresh parsley. Kafta is shaped into oblong patties and grilled to juicy perfection, making it perfect for a quick and delicious dinner. With vibrant spices like cumin, cinnamon, and coriander, this easy-to-make recipe brings aromatic and savory flavors to your table in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Herbs

  • ¼ cup parsley

Vegetables

  • 1 small yellow onion, quartered

Meat

  • 1 pound ground beef

Spices

  • 2 teaspoons 7 spice
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon coriander
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Chop the Parsley: Place the parsley in the bowl of a food processor and pulse until finely chopped. Remove the parsley and set it aside.
  2. Chop the Onion: In the same food processor bowl, add the quartered onion and pulse until finely chopped. Drain the onions slightly to release excess moisture to avoid watery mixture.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Return the parsley to the food processor bowl with the chopped onions. Add the ground beef along with all the spices: 7 spice, cumin, cinnamon, coriander, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Pulse once or twice until the ingredients are thoroughly combined and form a pasty meat mixture.
  4. Form the Kafta: Transfer the meat mixture to a large bowl and shape into oblong patties about 1 inch thick. You should get approximately 12 kafta patties. Optionally, you can form them around wooden skewers if desired.
  5. Preheat and Prepare Grill: Grease the grates of a gas grill or an indoor grill pan and preheat it to medium-high heat to ensure perfect grilling.
  6. Grill the Kafta: Place the kafta patties on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, depending on your preferred level of doneness. They should be nicely charred on the outside and cooked through.
  7. Serve: Serve the kafta hot directly off the grill with your choice of sides such as pita bread, salad, or rice.

Notes

  • Make sure to drain excess moisture from the onions to prevent the meat mixture from becoming too wet, which can make shaping difficult.
  • If you don’t have a food processor, finely chop the onion and parsley by hand and mix thoroughly with the ground beef and spices.
  • You can use wooden skewers to shape the kafta, but this is optional.
  • Adjust the cayenne pepper to taste depending on your heat preference.
  • This recipe is perfect for grilling but can also be cooked on an indoor grill pan if an outdoor grill is unavailable.
  • Serve with fresh lemon wedges and tahini sauce for enhanced flavor.
