Ingredients

Fries

  • 1 (20-ounce) bag sweet potato fries (or regular fries)

Beef Mixture

  • 1 large yellow onion (divided)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef chuck (80/20)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon beef bouillon powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayo
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon grated onion (from the large yellow onion)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

Toppings (optional)

  • Sesame seeds
  • Your favorite burger toppings such as lettuce, tomato, cheese, pickles, etc.

Instructions

  1. Prep Onion: Grate one large yellow onion using the large holes of a grater to yield about 1 tablespoon of grated onion for the sauce. Finely dice the rest of the onion, which should be about 1 cup, to use in the beef mixture.
  2. Prep Fries: Prepare the fries according to the package directions, either in the oven or using an air fryer, until they are crispy and cooked through.
  3. Make Sauce: In a small bowl, combine the mayo, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, paprika, grated onion, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Mix thoroughly until smooth, then chill the sauce until you are ready to assemble the bowls.
  4. Cook Beef: Heat a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil and diced onion, sautéing for 4 to 5 minutes until the onions are golden. Push the onions to the sides of the pan and add the ground beef to the center. Increase the heat to high and sear the beef for about 1 minute on each side to develop a crust, then crumble and brown it thoroughly. Season the beef with garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, beef bouillon powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Continue cooking until the beef is deeply browned and most fat has rendered out. Drain excess grease, remove the pan from heat, and stir in Worcestershire sauce. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  5. Assemble: Evenly divide the cooked fries and beef mixture among 4 bowls. Add your favorite toppings, drizzle generously with the prepared sauce, and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • You can use regular fries if sweet potato fries are unavailable.
  • Feel free to customize your bowl with traditional burger toppings such as shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, pickles, shredded cheese, or jalapeños.
  • The sauce tastes best when chilled for at least 10 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  • For a leaner version, substitute ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.
  • Use a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan to get the best sear on the beef.
