Deliciously sweet and slightly spicy candied pecans coated with a flavorful glaze of confectioners' sugar, cayenne pepper, and kosher salt, baked to a perfect caramelized crunch. These make a perfect snack, salad topping, or dessert addition.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • ½ cup confectioners' sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 4 teaspoons water
  • 2 cups pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare baking sheet: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and place an oven rack in the middle position. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  2. Make the sugar glaze: In a medium bowl, whisk together the confectioners' sugar, kosher salt, cayenne pepper, and water until smooth and fully combined, forming a sweet and spicy glaze.
  3. Coat the pecans: Add the pecans to the sugar mixture and stir well, ensuring all nuts are evenly coated with the glaze for uniform caramelization.
  4. Arrange and bake: Spread the coated pecans evenly in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure the nuts are not clumped together to promote even cooking. Drizzle any remaining glaze on top. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning. The pecans should become caramelized with a rich brown caramel on the sheet.
  5. Cool and store: Immediately transfer the parchment paper with pecans off the hot baking sheet to stop further cooking. Let the pecans cool completely on the countertop. Once cool, break apart any clusters and store in an airtight container for up to two weeks.

Notes

  • Watch pecans carefully during baking as they can burn quickly once caramelization starts.
  • Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease transfer when cooling.
  • These candied pecans make a great topping for salads, desserts, or can be eaten as a sweet snack.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks for optimal freshness.
