Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter (room temperature)
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Add-ins

  • ⅔ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup pretzels (broken into pieces)
  • Sea salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda until combined. Set aside.
  2. Cream butter, peanut butter, and sugars: Using a mixer, beat the peanut butter, butter, sugar, and brown sugar on high speed for about 3 minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy, then reduce mixer speed to low.
  4. Combine dry and wet: Gradually stir in the flour mixture just until combined, careful not to overmix.
  5. Incorporate chocolate chips and pretzels: Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and broken pretzel pieces evenly into the dough.
  6. Chill the dough: Cover the dough and chill it in the refrigerator for 2 hours to firm up.
  7. Preheat oven and prepare baking sheets: Remove dough from fridge and preheat the oven to 350ºF (177ºC). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Scoop and season dough balls: Use a large cookie scoop to place dough balls onto the lined baking sheets. Lightly sprinkle each cookie dough ball with sea salt.
  9. Bake cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown but the centers remain soft.
  10. Cool and serve: Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Chilling the dough helps prevent cookie spread and enhances flavor.
  • Use room temperature butter for easier creaming.
  • Adjust sea salt sprinkling according to your preference for saltiness.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain freshness for up to 5 days.
  • For extra crunch, slightly toast the pretzels before breaking them into pieces.
