This Easy Dirt Pudding Recipe is a fun, no-bake dessert that layers chocolate pudding with crushed Oreo cookies to create a dirt-like appearance. Perfect for parties or a quick treat, it combines creamy instant chocolate pudding with whipped topping and chocolate cookie crumbs for a delightful texture and rich flavor.

Ingredients

Cookies

  • 20 Oreo cookies

Pudding Mixture

  • 1 (3 ½ ounces) box instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping

  • 4 ounces whipped topping (Cool Whip or similar)

Instructions

  1. Crush Cookies: Crush the Oreo cookies using a rolling pin or a food processor until they resemble dirt-like crumbs.
  2. Prepare Pudding Mix: In a mixing bowl, combine the instant chocolate pudding mix, cocoa powder, cold milk, and vanilla extract. Use a hand mixer on medium speed and blend for 4 to 5 minutes until the mixture becomes smooth and thick.
  3. Fold in Whipped Topping: Gently fold the whipped topping into the pudding mixture until evenly combined for a light and creamy texture.
  4. Layer in Glasses: Spoon 2 tablespoons of cookie crumbs into each of 8 glasses or jars as the base layer.
  5. Add Pudding Layers: Add about ⅓ cup of the pudding mixture on top of the crumbs in each glass. Then sprinkle 1 tablespoon of cookie crumbs over the pudding. Repeat by adding another ⅓ cup of pudding and finishing with 1 tablespoon of cookie crumbs on top.
  6. Alternative Assembly: Alternatively, assemble the dessert in an 8x8-inch square pan by layering all of the pudding and topping it with all the crushed cookie crumbs.
  7. Decorate and Serve: Decorate the dirt pudding with optional toppings if desired. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

  • For a fun twist, add gummy worms or candy bugs to enhance the 'dirt' theme.
  • You can substitute whipped topping with whipped cream for a fresher taste.
  • Assemble just before serving to keep the cookie crumbs crunchy.
  • Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 2 days.
