This Easy Pull Apart Garlic Parmesan Bread is a flavorful and cheesy bread perfect as a party appetizer or a side for Italian meals. It features a crispy sourdough baguette filled with a garlic herb butter and a blend of parmesan and asiago cheeses, baked to golden perfection for an irresistible pull-apart experience.

Ingredients

Garlic Butter Mixture

  • 6-8 garlic cloves, peeled
  • 1 1/4 sticks (10 tablespoons) salted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil (or 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil)
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • Red pepper flakes, to taste
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Bread and Cheese

  • 1 sourdough baguette or French bread
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated asiago cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400° F (200° C) to prepare for baking the bread.
  2. Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small skillet over medium heat, melt together the peeled garlic cloves and 1 tablespoon of butter. Cook while stirring occasionally until the garlic softens and turns golden, about 5-10 minutes. Remove from heat and finely mash the garlic with a fork to create a smooth garlic paste.
  3. Slice the Bread: Using a sharp knife, slice the baguette into 1 1/2 inch thick slices, being careful not to cut all the way through the bottom. This will allow the bread to hold together while having slits for the butter mixture.
  4. Mix Seasoned Butter: In a small bowl, combine the remaining butter, dried basil, dried oregano, dried parsley, red pepper flakes, grated parmesan, grated asiago, and the mashed garlic paste. Season generously with kosher salt and black pepper, mixing until well blended.
  5. Fill the Bread: Spread the garlic herb butter mixture generously inside each cut of the bread, making sure to push it into every slit for full flavor penetration.
  6. Wrap and Bake: Wrap the stuffed baguette tightly in aluminum foil and place it on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
  7. Finish Baking: Carefully open the foil and return the bread to the oven, uncovered. Bake an additional 5 minutes to allow the top to become golden and slightly crisp.
  8. Serve: Remove from oven, tear the bread apart, and serve immediately. Optionally, sprinkle extra parmesan cheese and accompany with your favorite Italian sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Make sure not to slice all the way through the bread to keep it intact for easy pulling apart.
  • If fresh herbs are used, use double the amount of dried herbs stated.

  • For extra crispiness, you can unwrap the foil completely and bake for an additional 2-3 minutes at the end.
  • This bread is best enjoyed warm and fresh out of the oven.
  • Leftovers can be reheated wrapped in foil at 350° F for 10 minutes.
