This Garlic Shrimp with Smoked Paprika & Honey is a quick and flavorful dinner dish featuring succulent shrimp sautéed with aromatic garlic, smoky paprika, and a hint of sweet honey. Perfect for a weeknight meal, it balances savory and sweet notes with tender, perfectly cooked shrimp.

Ingredients

Shrimp

  • 36 large shrimp, thawed, peeled, and deveined (or prawns)
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 large cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 1.5 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp honey
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry thoroughly with a paper towel. Place them in a small bowl, drizzle with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and season with salt and pepper. Toss to coat evenly.
  2. Cook the shrimp: Heat a frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Test the heat by splashing a drop of water onto the pan; it should sizzle immediately when hot. Arrange shrimp in a single layer with some space between each piece. Depending on your pan size, you may need to cook in batches. Cook each side of the shrimp for 1 to 2 minutes until the shrimp turn opaque, pink, and have a slight browning. Then remove the shrimp from the pan and set aside in a bowl.
  3. Sauté garlic and prepare sauce: In the same pan, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add the thinly sliced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until the garlic is browned and fragrant but not burnt.
  4. Add paprika and honey: Stir in smoked paprika and honey into the garlic oil, mixing well to combine and create a flavorful sauce.
  5. Combine shrimp with sauce: Return the cooked shrimp to the pan and toss them thoroughly in the garlic-paprika-honey sauce to coat every piece evenly.
  6. Serve: Remove the pan from heat and serve the shrimp immediately. Add additional salt and pepper to taste as desired for final seasoning.

Notes

  • Cooking shrimp in batches ensures even cooking without overcrowding the pan.
  • Be careful not to burn the garlic; cook it only until fragrant and lightly browned.
  • This recipe pairs well with steamed rice, crusty bread, or a fresh green salad.
  • Use fresh or frozen shrimp that have been properly thawed for best texture.
  • Smoked paprika adds a deep smoky flavor, but you can adjust the amount to your taste.
