Ingredients

Strawberry Puree

  • 5-7 fresh strawberries
  • ¼ cup granulated white sugar

Matcha Mixture

  • 2 teaspoons matcha green tea powder
  • ½ cup hot water, divided

Assembly

  • Ice, as needed
  • 1 cup milk of choice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Strawberry Puree: Place the strawberries on a cutting board and chop them coarsely. Sprinkle the granulated sugar over the strawberries and continue chopping and muddling until the strawberries are finely minced and the sugar has dissolved into a juicy puree. Set this mixture aside.
  2. Make the Matcha: Place the matcha powder in a small bowl or a spouted measuring cup. Pour in half of the hot water (preferably just boiled) and whisk vigorously until the matcha powder is fully dissolved and no clumps remain. Add the remaining hot water and keep whisking until the mixture is smooth and frothy. Set this aside.
  3. Assemble the Drink: Divide the strawberry puree evenly into two 12-ounce glasses. Fill each glass about three-quarters full with ice cubes.
  4. Add Milk: Slowly pour the milk of your choice over the ice and strawberry puree in each glass, filling the cup roughly three-quarters full. Pour gently to maintain layers if desired.
  5. Finish with Matcha: Finally, pour the prepared matcha slowly on top of the milk in each glass, creating a layered effect. Stir gently with a straw to combine everything before drinking. Serve immediately and enjoy the refreshing, sweet, and earthy flavors.

Notes

  • Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor.
  • Adjust the sugar quantity based on the sweetness of your strawberries or your taste preference.
  • Any milk can be used, including dairy, almond, oat, or soy milk for different flavor and dietary needs.
  • To create a visually striking layered effect, pour ingredients slowly and avoid stirring until ready to drink.
  • Matcha powder quality matters—use ceremonial grade green tea powder for the best taste and vibrant color.
  • Optional: add a sprig of mint or a strawberry slice as garnish for presentation.
