This Instant Pot Spaghetti recipe delivers a quick and flavorful one-pot meal perfect for busy weeknights. Ground beef is browned and combined with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and two types of tomato sauces, then pressure-cooked with spaghetti noodles for an easy, hearty pasta dish with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 16 ounces uncooked spaghetti (white or whole wheat)
  • 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 25 ounce jar marinara sauce

Instructions

  1. Brown the Meat: Turn on the Instant Pot sauté function and add the ground beef. Cook it while crumbling with a spoon or spatula until browned. Once browned, turn the Instant Pot off and drain any excess grease to reduce fat.
  2. Add Seasonings and Water: Pour in the water, then add Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine, making sure to scrape up any browned bits stuck to the bottom of the pot for extra flavor.
  3. Arrange the Spaghetti: Break the spaghetti noodles in half into manageable pieces and lay them in the pot in different directions. This helps prevent the noodles from sticking together. Avoid stirring to keep the layers intact.
  4. Add Sauces: Pour the tomato sauce and marinara sauce evenly over the spaghetti. Do not stir to maintain the noodle arrangement below.
  5. Seal the Instant Pot: Close the Instant Pot lid securely and turn the steam release valve to the sealing position to prepare for pressure cooking.
  6. Pressure Cook: Set the Instant Pot to cook at high pressure for 7 minutes if using regular white spaghetti (typical package cook time 9-11 minutes). Use 5 minutes for whole wheat spaghetti (typical package cook time 7-9 minutes). The Instant Pot will take about 15-20 minutes to come to pressure before the countdown begins.
  7. Quick Release Pressure: When the cooking time ends, carefully perform a quick release by moving the steam release valve to venting. Wait until all the steam escapes and the float valve drops down before opening the lid.
  8. Stir and Rest: Remove the lid and give the spaghetti a good stir. You’ll notice some liquid in the pot, but it will absorb within a few minutes. Let the pasta rest for 3-5 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to thicken and flavors to meld.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey for ground beef for a leaner option.
  • Adjust the salt to your taste preference or dietary needs.
  • Using different directions to layer spaghetti helps avoid clumping while cooking under pressure.
  • Letting the pasta rest after cooking improves texture by absorbing excess liquid.
  • If you prefer a spicier flavor, add crushed red pepper flakes with the seasonings.
