Ingredients

Steak Seasoning

  • 1 tbsp kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (93% lean)
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1.5 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2-2½ tsp homemade steak seasoning (from above)

Cottage Cheese Sauce

  • 3/4 cup cottage cheese, blended until smooth
  • 1/2 cup provolone cheese
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the ground beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and break it apart. Sprinkle 1 to 1½ teaspoons of the steak seasoning over the beef. Let it cook undisturbed for 1 to 2 minutes, then continue cooking and stirring occasionally until the beef is browned, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Sauté the vegetables: Add the sliced mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers directly into the skillet with the beef. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms release their moisture, begin to brown, and the vegetables become soft and slightly caramelized.
  3. Add remaining seasoning and garlic: Sprinkle the remaining ½ to 1 teaspoon of steak seasoning into the skillet, stir well, then add the minced garlic. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Incorporate Worcestershire sauce: Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and mix everything thoroughly. Let the mixture cook together for 1 to 2 minutes to combine flavors.
  5. Prepare the cheese sauce: Blend the cottage cheese until completely smooth using a blender or food processor. In a small saucepan, combine the blended cottage cheese, provolone cheese, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly until the cheeses melt and the sauce becomes creamy.
  6. Finish and serve: Drizzle the warm cottage cheese sauce over the skillet mixture. Gently mix everything to combine the flavors evenly. Serve immediately and enjoy your Philly Cheesesteak Skillet!
