This Salmon Burger recipe offers a delightful way to enjoy fresh salmon in a juicy, flavorful patty. Combining finely chopped and processed salmon with fresh herbs, Greek yogurt, and Dijon mustard creates a moist, tender texture. Grilled to perfection, these salmon burgers are ideal for a quick, healthy meal and are perfect served on buns with lettuce and tartar sauce.

Ingredients

Salmon Mixture

  • 1 pound salmon fillets (or 3-6 oz canned salmon, drained)
  • 1 tablespoon Greek yogurt
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 lemon (zested)
  • 2 green onions (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill (chopped)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

To Serve

  • Bun
  • Lettuce (optional)
  • Tartar sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the salmon mixture: Finely chop half of the salmon fillets and set aside. Cut the remaining half into large chunks and place them in the bowl of a food processor. Add the Greek yogurt, Dijon mustard, and lemon zest. Blend the mixture, pausing to scrape down the sides as needed until it forms a pasty consistency.
  2. Combine the ingredients: Remove the blade from the food processor. Fold in the reserved chopped salmon along with the chopped green onions, fresh dill, breadcrumbs, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  3. Shape the patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a burger patty, ensuring they hold together well.
  4. Cook the salmon burgers: Heat a grill to medium or warm olive oil over medium heat in a large nonstick skillet or grill pan. Place the patties on the grill or pan and cook for 4 to 5 minutes on each side, turning once, until the exterior is golden and the patties are cooked through.
  5. Serve: Place the cooked salmon burgers on buns. Add lettuce and tartar sauce if desired. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • Using a food processor creates a tender texture, but be careful not to over-process the salmon to maintain some bite.
  • Fresh dill complements the salmon flavor perfectly, but you can substitute with fresh parsley if preferred.
  • Ensure the grill or pan is properly heated before adding patties to get a nice sear.
  • If using canned salmon, make sure it's well drained to avoid soggy patties.
  • These burgers can be prepared ahead and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before cooking.
