This flavorful Salmon Burger recipe features fresh salmon blended with Greek yogurt, Dijon mustard, lemon zest, and herbs, then grilled to perfection. It is a healthy, protein-packed alternative to traditional burgers, perfect for a quick and delicious meal served on buns with tartar sauce and lettuce.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound salmon fillets (or 3-6oz canned salmon, drained)
  • 1 tablespoon Greek yogurt
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 lemon (zested)
  • 2 green onions (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill (chopped)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Bun (for serving)
  • Lettuce (for serving)
  • Tartar sauce (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Salmon: Finely chop half of the salmon fillets and set aside. Cut the remaining half into large chunks and place them into the bowl of a food processor.
  2. Blend Ingredients: Add Greek yogurt, Dijon mustard, and lemon zest to the food processor with the salmon chunks. Blend until pasty, stopping occasionally to scrape down the sides.
  3. Mix Mixture: Remove the blade from the processor. Fold in the reserved chopped salmon, green onions, fresh dill, breadcrumbs, salt, and black pepper to the salmon paste mixture.
  4. Form Patties: Shape the mixture into four equal-sized burger patties, handling gently to keep the texture intact.
  5. Cook Burgers: Preheat a grill to medium heat and brush the grates with oil, or heat olive oil in a large nonstick skillet or grill pan over medium heat. Cook the salmon burgers for 4-5 minutes on each side, flipping once, until cooked through and golden brown.
  6. Serve: Place cooked salmon burgers on buns and top with lettuce and tartar sauce as desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Using canned salmon is a convenient alternative but fresh salmon offers better texture and flavor.
  • Ensure not to over-blend the salmon to maintain a good texture in the patties.
  • If breadcrumbs are not available, crushed crackers or oats can be used as a binder.
  • Serve immediately after cooking for best taste and texture.
  • Can be cooked on a stovetop or grill depending on preference and equipment.
