A flavorful and easy-to-make Steak Bowl featuring marinated flank steak pan-seared to perfection and served over rice with optional toppings like corn avocado salsa and sour cream. This dish combines bold citrus, garlic, and spicy sriracha notes for a satisfying meal that comes together in just over an hour.

Ingredients

Marinade

  • 1 bunch parsley, chopped
  • 5 cloves garlic, smashed
  • ⅓ cup olive oil
  • ⅓ cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 2-3 tbsp sriracha sauce
  • 1 lemon, juice and zest

Steak

  • 1½-2 lb flank steak
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

To Serve

  • 4 cups cooked rice (or quinoa as alternative)
  • 4 cups corn avocado salsa (optional)
  • 4 tbsp sour cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Marinade: In a large bowl, combine chopped parsley, smashed garlic cloves, olive oil, low sodium soy sauce, sriracha sauce, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Mix well to blend all flavors.
  2. Marinate Steak: Place the flank steak into the marinade, ensuring it is fully coated. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.
  3. Rest Steak: Remove the marinated steak from the fridge and let it rest at room temperature on the counter for about 5 minutes. This helps the meat cook more evenly.
  4. Pan-Sear Steak: Heat a cast iron pan over medium-high heat and add butter and olive oil. Once the butter has melted and begun to sizzle, add the flank steak. Sear for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, depending on thickness, until you achieve a nice crust and desired doneness.
  5. Rest Cooked Steak: Transfer the steak to a cutting board and let it rest for 10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, keeping the steak tender and juicy.
  6. Slice and Serve: Slice the steak thinly against the grain. Serve over a bed of cooked rice or quinoa, and add optional toppings such as corn avocado salsa and sour cream for extra flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Marinate steak for longer than 1 hour if time permits for deeper flavor infusion.
  • Letting the steak rest before and after cooking is key to juicy results.
  • You can substitute rice with quinoa for a gluten-free option.
  • Adjust sriracha quantity to control spice level.
  • Use a cast iron skillet for the best searing results, but a grill works well too.
