This best cheese ball recipe is a creamy, tangy, and nutty appetizer perfect for parties and gatherings. Made with softened cream cheese, Old English cheese spread, sharp cheddar, and flavorful spices, then rolled in chopped pecans and fresh parsley, this cheese ball is easy to prepare and delightful to serve with crackers.

Ingredients

Cheese Ball Mixture

  • 16 ounces cream cheese, softened (2 of the 8-ounce boxes)
  • 1 jar Old English cheese spread (found near crackers)
  • 1 ½ cups sharp or medium cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (scant)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder (scant)
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (heaping)

Coating

  • 2 cups pecans, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

For Serving

  • Crackers of your choice

Instructions

  1. Chop Pecans: Finely chop 2 cups of pecans and set them aside for coating the cheese ball later.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, Old English cheese spread, grated cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, lemon juice, and mayonnaise. Stir thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  3. Form Cheese Ball: Shape the cheese mixture into a firm ball using your hands, then place it on a large piece of plastic wrap (saran wrap).
  4. Chill Cheese Ball: Refrigerate the formed cheese ball for 10-15 minutes to allow it to firm up. You can prepare this ahead of time and chill it for up to 48 hours until ready to serve.
  5. Prepare Coating: While the cheese ball chills, combine the finely chopped pecans and chopped fresh parsley on a plate, mixing them evenly.
  6. Coat Cheese Ball: Remove the cheese ball from the fridge and plastic wrap. Roll and press the cheese ball gently into the pecan and parsley mixture until it is fully coated. Reshape with your hands if needed to maintain the ball form.
  7. Serve: Serve the cheese ball immediately with your choice of crackers. Alternatively, store it in the fridge for a few hours before serving.

Notes

  • The cheese ball can be made up to 48 hours in advance and stored in the refrigerator, which enhances the flavors.
  • Use sharp cheddar for a stronger flavor or medium cheddar for a milder taste.
  • Make sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easy mixing and a smooth texture.
  • Feel free to substitute pecans with other nuts like walnuts or almonds if desired.
  • Serve with a variety of crackers or crunchy vegetables for different serving options.
