This refreshing Tzatziki Sauce is a classic Greek dip made with creamy whole milk Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, fresh herbs, and zesty lemon juice. Perfect as a cooling accompaniment to grilled meats, pita bread, or vegetables, this easy-to-make sauce combines bright flavors and creamy texture for a versatile condiment.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • ½ cup finely grated cucumber
  • 1 cup thick whole milk Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • ½ tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, grated
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint (optional)

Instructions

  1. Drain the cucumber: Place the grated cucumber on a clean kitchen towel and gently squeeze to remove excess moisture, preventing the sauce from becoming watery.
  2. Mix ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the drained cucumber, Greek yogurt, fresh lemon juice, olive oil, grated garlic, sea salt, chopped dill, and fresh mint if using. Stir well to evenly blend all ingredients.
  3. Chill before serving: Cover the bowl and refrigerate the tzatziki sauce for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.

Notes

  • For best results, use full-fat Greek yogurt to achieve a creamy texture.
  • If you prefer a milder garlic flavor, use half a clove or roast the garlic before grating.
  • Adjust salt and lemon juice to taste depending on preference.
  • The sauce can be made up to 24 hours ahead and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • Serve chilled as a dip, sauce for grilled meats, or spread for sandwiches and wraps.
