A quick and healthy Veg Wrap recipe combining fresh shredded vegetables, whole wheat roti, and a flavorful creamy spread made from cream cheese or yogurt, enhanced with garlic, mustard, and lemon juice. Perfect for a light lunch or snack, these wraps are easy to prepare and can be customized with your choice of dips or green chutney.

Ingredients

Wrap

  • 4 whole wheat roti (or tortilla)

Vegetables

  • 1 medium carrot, shredded
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tomato, deseeded and thinly sliced
  • Lettuce (or cabbage as desired)
  • 1 green chili, chopped (optional, skip for kids)

Spread

  • ¼ cup cream cheese (or hung curd / Greek yogurt or mayonnaise)
  • 1 to 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 to 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Lemon juice, as needed
  • Pepper powder, as needed
  • ¼ to ½ tsp mustard powder (or ground mustard)
  • Salt, as needed (optional, skip if cheese or mayo has salt)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Vegetables: Wash all the vegetables thoroughly and shred or slice them as described—shred the carrot, thinly slice the onion and tomato (removing seeds), and chop the green chili if using. Set aside the lettuce or cabbage.
  2. Make the Spread: In a bowl, mix the cream cheese (or hung curd/Greek yogurt/mayonnaise) with minced garlic, mustard powder, freshly ground pepper, and lemon juice. Adjust salt to taste unless the base spread already contains salt. Stir well until creamy and combined.
  3. Spread the Mixture: Evenly spread the prepared creamy mixture over each whole wheat roti, covering the entire surface including the edges to help seal the wrap.
  4. Assemble the Wraps: Place a layer of lettuce or cabbage on one side of each spread roti, followed by the shredded carrot, sliced onion, tomato, and green chili if desired.
  5. Roll the Wraps: Carefully roll the roti starting from the side with the vegetables, tucking in the edges as you go to form a tight, compact wrap.
  6. Serve or Store: Serve the wraps fresh within 2 hours if mayonnaise or cream cheese is used to maintain freshness. If using green chutney as a spread alternative, the wraps can be stored for several hours before consumption.

Notes

  • For a vegan option, substitute cream cheese with vegan cheese or use hummus as a spread.
  • The green chili can be omitted or reduced for a milder flavor suitable for children.
  • Adding lemon juice and mustard powder balances the creaminess of the spread with a tangy kick.
  • These wraps are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator wrapped in foil or parchment paper for a few hours.
  • Use whole wheat or multi-grain rotis/tortillas for added fiber and nutrients.
  • Optional: Add other vegetables like cucumber, bell peppers, or avocado for more variety.
